Introduction

Introduction to Thigh Lift

A thigh lift is done to remove excess fat and skin from the thigh and buttock area. One of the most common reasons to seek a thigh lift is to help reshape the thigh area after radical weight loss, removing the resulting sagging skin and stubborn subcutaneous fat deposits. Others seek it to improve their thigh contours, allowing them to wear revealing clothes. Whatever your reasons may be, to learn more about a thigh lift in Newport News and the greater Virginia Beach area, contact The Carney Center.

What is a Thigh Lift?

Thigh lift surgery, medically known as a thighplasty, is an invasive cosmetic procedure that aims at removing excess skin and fat from the thigh area. The procedure tightens the thighs, resulting in firmer and more youthful-looking lower-body contours. It is a highly opted procedure for those who have had radical weight loss to remove the sagging skin that rubs between their legs, causing chafing, discomfort, and even poor hygiene. Various types of thighplasty procedures target different areas of the thigh, such as the inner thigh lift, the outer thigh lift, or even a vertical thigh lift.

What’s the
first step?

The first step in getting a thigh lift in Virginia Beach is to schedule a consultation at The Carney Center with one of our expert surgeons. During your appointment, your surgeon will want to know about your medical history, lifestyle, aesthetic goals, and expectations. They will examine your thigh area and discuss the various techniques available, as well as which one they would recommend for you. They may discuss prospective incision sites with you as they outline the techniques and their associated risks and benefits.

Patients should ask any questions they might have at this time and share any ideas for combined procedures.

If your surgeon recommends a thigh lift, they will design your surgical plan and provide you with pre-operative instructions. For instance, you may be instructed to stop taking certain medications that can increase bleeding, such as aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs. A medical evaluation may also be required to ensure you are fit for surgery.

What to Expect on the Day of Thigh Lift Surgery

On the day of your thigh lift in Virginia Beach at The Carney Center, your surgeon and their staff will welcome you to the facility and get you settled in the surgical suite. A member of the staff will then review your surgical plan to ensure you have no outstanding questions. Once you give the go-ahead, a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) will administer general anesthesia so that you are sedated throughout the procedure.

Once sedated, your surgeon will begin creating the incision according to the type of thigh lift being performed. Inner thigh lifts are performed with incisions over the inner thigh and hidden in the groin crease. Outer thigh and buttock lifts are performed with incisions that extend from the groin around the back. All incisions are well masked by bathing suits, and scars do fade with time.

Once your surgeon has accessed the underlying tissue and removed any excess fat and skin, they will shape the thighs to match your aesthetic goals and stitch the skin using sutures. Dressings or bandages may be applied to the incisions, and small tubes may be temporarily placed to drain excess fluid. Your surgeon will also apply a compression garment.

Thigh Lift Recovery

After the procedure, you will be moved to a recovery area to wake up from anesthesia. Patients are recommended to have a family member or a friend drive them home.

Bruising, swelling, and a “tight” feeling in the thighs are to be expected, but these symptoms typically improve after a few days.
Patients are recommended to avoid strenuous activities for at least 6 weeks. Most patients can return to normal daily activities after 4 to 6 weeks.

It is essential to follow post-operative instructions to ensure a smooth recovery.
