Introduction to Medical Grade Facials

The Carney Center, based in Virginia Beach, offers a variety of skin care treatments, including medical-grade facials that can be tailored to individual patient needs. Read on to learn more about the types of medical-grade facials we offer to help you effectively replenish your skin.

What is a Medical Grade Facial?

A medical-grade facial is a facial that is tailored to a patient’s individual and unique skin care needs using advanced skin care products only available to, and applied by, medical professionals. The Carney Center offers the following facials to patients in Virginia Beach:

  • Microdermabrasion medical facials are our most popular facial at The Carney Center! After assessing your skin, your licensed medical aesthetician or RN will begin with dermaplaning the skin. Dermaplaning is an exfoliating procedure using a sterile surgical scalpel to remove fine, vellus hair and the top layer of dull, dead skin cells. This will allow products to penetrate more deeply and give the skin a beautiful, healthy glow. Next, you will receive a microdermabrasion treatment with our Pristine laser-cut diamond-tipped microdermabrasion machine. It will manually exfoliate the skin, diminish fine lines, and improve overall skin texture. An enzyme treatment follows, and light extractions are performed. Your medical facial is completed with a customized mask and micropeel catered to the individual’s specific skin care needs. For best results, this facial is recommended every four weeks.

What’s the
first step?

In order to receive a medical-grade facial at The Carney Center in Virginia Beach, prospective patients must first schedule a consultation. Please be prepared to share your full medical history, as this will help avoid certain risks when preparing a medical-grade facial treatment. Your licensed medical aesthetician or RN will evaluate your skin and make recommendations for specific products and treatment options with a medical-grade facial. If you are a good candidate, you will receive a customized medical-grade facial treatment plan tailored to your specific skin care needs and issues. What to Expect on the Day of a Medical Grade Facial Treatment

Your medical-grade facial will begin with dermaplaning to remove excess or dead skin cells so that the products can efficiently target your treatment areas. If you receive a microdermabrasion medical-grade facial, your skin will be lightly exfoliated as well. Your licensed medical aesthetician or RN will then apply a curated selection of products designed to address your specific skincare and healthcare needs. Depending on the products used, some patients may feel a minor tingling or stinging sensation; however, these effects are usually temporary.

Medical Grade Facial Recovery

Medical-grade facials require little downtime for recovery, though this is also dependent on the patient and any underlying health conditions. The Carney Center strongly recommends that all patients receiving medical-grade facials avoid sun exposure after treatment, as the skin will be more sensitive to sun damage. Any discomfort from the medical-grade facial can be treated with an ice pack to help soothe the skin.
