Microdermabrasion

Introduction

Introduction to Microdermabrasion

The surface layer of the skin becomes weathered over time. Minor blemishes such as acne scars, spots from sun damage, and wrinkles may begin to define the skin and its texture. While the skin can be managed with a diligent skin care routine, most people will need a light skin refresh on average.

The Carney Center offers microdermabrasion treatments to Virginia Beach patients. These noninvasive treatments are an excellent solution for resetting the skin’s surface layers and achieving a healthy glow. Read on to learn more about this popular cosmetic treatment and how it can help you reach your skincare goals!

What is Micro-dermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a noninvasive cosmetic treatment that exfoliates the damaged surface layers of the skin, allowing the healthy, new skin underneath to rise to the surface and shine. Microdermabrasion stimulates the production of new skin cells and is suitable for most skin types. This treatment can be applied to the face, neck, and back.

What to Expect on the Day of a Microdermabrasion Treatment

Ready for healthy, renewed skin? On the day of your microdermabrasion treatment, your aesthetician will cleanse and prep your skin for the microdermabrasion device, which will then be guided over your skin and targeted areas for improvement. The device will gently exfoliate the surface layer of the skin to remove any dead cells and stimulate the production of new collagen and skin. Depending on the extent of your treatment, this process may take anywhere from thirty minutes up to an hour. You may then return to your normal schedule, with little to no downtime for recovery.

Microdermabrasion Recovery

Microdermabrasion is perfect for patients seeking a noninvasive, low-intensity skin refresh, as little to no downtime is necessary for recovery. Some patients may feel their skin is more sensitive after the exfoliation, which is normal. Following all aftercare instructions and avoiding sun exposure is important, as the skin will be even more sensitive and prone to sun damage following microdermabrasion.
