Eyelid Lift
“I looked tired, makeup looked awful…people would ask me if something was wrong. Having an eyelift changed everything! People actually look me straight in the eyes and ask me what my secret is because they can’t figure it out!”*
– Mary J., Norfolk, VA
Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty is an option for addressing eyes that make you look older, sadder or more fatigued than you really are.
Eyelid surgery may be done in combination with forehead surgery and/or laser skin resurfacing which can enhance the benefits of surgery by improving skin texture.
HOW IT WORKS
Eyelid surgery is generally performed under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. Surgery is usually performed at The Carney Center.
Dr. Carney uses an endoscopic forehead technique, which limits incisions and results in less bruising, swelling, and a quicker recovery than traditional methods. The procedure takes between one and two hours depending upon the extent of the surgery. If all four eyelids are done in combination with the forehead lift, the procedure will be approximately two hours.
AFTER TREATMENT
At the conclusion of surgery, cool compresses are placed over the eyes as well as a headband or dressing around your forehead and scalp to minimize swelling. You will be able to go home, where you should rest with your head elevated.
Three days after your surgery your sutures will be removed during your first follow-up visit to the office. A light amount of make-up can adequately cover any bruising. Within the first week, you could experience mildly blurred vision, excess tearing or dryness, light sensitivity or itching. These conditions may be controlled with medication.
IS EYELID SURGERY RIGHT FOR YOU?
Eyelid surgery is chosen by men and women of all ages who want to enhance their self esteem or minimize the effects of aging. Candidates may have excess skin or loose skin on the upper lids or excess puffiness, dark circles or bags beneath the eyes.
