Also known as PhotoFacials, the IPL Facial is an exciting treatment approach to minimizing the external signs of aging.

The procedure utilizes Intense Pulse Light (IPL) to improve skin quality and rejuvenate the overall skin appearance. Energy from the IPL penetrates into the skin to help build collagen and elastic fiber in the deeper levels.

Photo rejuvenation effectively treats rosacea and acne as well as numerous other skin conditions. IPL Facials are non-invasive treatments done three to four weeks apart and are usually performed over the entire face (also the neck and chest), allowing the patient a uniform and pleasing result.

“It was hard to accept the changes on my face that I was noticing as I aged. The wrinkles around my eyes and lips just made me look old and tired. Then Dr. Carney suggested fat grafting and all I can say is I wish I had been able to do this when I was younger.”*

– Susan B., Virginia Beach, VA

Fat grafting is a cosmetic procedure in which your own fat is used to rejuvenate the face or enhance the cheeks, lips or breasts. Fat can also be used to correct facial or body contours to improve symmetry.

Fat injections use your own fat tissue which is taken from various sites on the body. The procedure may be recommended for larger volume enhancements and is usually placed in the deeper tissues below the skin. That may also be injected into the skin to reduce more superficial lines and wrinkles.

ABOUT THE PROCEDURE

The donor and recipient sites are cleansed and treated with a local anesthetic. Fat is then removed by liposuction from the common donor sites such as the thighs, hips and abdomen. Fat is placed in a centrifuge where the fat cells are separated from other tissues and fluids. The fat is then put into a syringe and injected into the desired areas.

AFTER TREATMENT

After the treatment the patient usually experiences little or no bruising or swelling. Patient should avoid excessive sun exposure and may wear makeup to hide any effects of the procedure. Most patients may return to normal activities within one to three days. However, higher volume fat injections may be associated with a longer recovery.

Accent™, provides controlled heat therapy to fight wrinkles and reshape any bulges or sagging skin on your body. The treatment process is comfortable, quick and virtually pain free. You’ll go through a series of office visits to see the full benefits.

Since it’s not surgery—there are no incisions, stitches or even anesthesia needed—there’s no recovery time required. You can go straight back to work or home.

Accent helps smooth and contour any loose, wrinkled or dimpled skin anywhere on the body. The treatment can help flatten your stomach, slim your hips and thighs, and tone your upper arms. Many patients also consider it after surgery or having a baby. Accent can also safely and effectively tighten the skin on your face and neck.

HOW IT WORKS

Accent uses cutting-edge medical technology, called radio frequency. It uses radio frequency energy to heat the dermis, your skin’s inner layer. This targeted energy helps reorganize the cellular environment and stimulates your cells to produce new collagen.

You’ll see increased blood circulation and connective tissue shrinkage from the heat therapy. Both of these actions will improve your skin’s contour and texture—which gives you that toned, firm look. Depending on the size of the treated area, a treatment may take from 15 to 45 minutes. Most people find Accent very comfortable. While pain tolerance is subjective, many patients often describe the sensation as a “warm massage.”

AFTER TREATMENT

Accent provides visible results, because it is the only treatment of its kind to use a “dual layer” approach. This means it treats tissue at two different depths using both unipolar and bipolar hand pieces. You’ll feel your body reshaping because of the dual layer targeting. Patients often see results right away. Over time and with follow-up procedures, your results will be even more visible as new collagen develops and toxins are removed. Generally, three to five treatments at two week intervals will be required.

If you feel that you would like to speak with Dr. Carney personally about Accent, please request a consultation or contact us with your question.

“I am amazed at how my face looks and feels. It’s unbelievable that I don’t have to wear makeup if I don’t want to…and I could see results after just one treatment!”*

– Tanya T., McLean, VA

The Carney Center offers Pixel Fractional Laser Resurfacing, the most advanced laser treatment for skin available today–it can improve the color, tone, texture and tightening of your skin in just a few easy and painless treatments.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Pixel skin resurfacing is based on the principle of microthermal treatment zones. The laser pulses create tiny ablative zones, removing the epidermis and upper dermis. The treatment then triggers the body’s natural healing process, stimulating growth of new healthy skin tissue.

The procedure treats small zones of the skin, leaving surrounding tissue untouched. The larger unaffected areas act as a reservoir to promote rapid tissue healing and collagen production. The bottom line: new, healthier, smoother tissue in place of skin imperfections.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

Generally, treatment involves two to four sessions, at four week intervals. After treatment you may feel a slight tingling sensation. You may also experience slight swelling for a day or two. As new skin replaces dead tissue, your skin will flake, a sign that healing is underway. Your skin will look better immediately, and will steadily improve over the next four months.

DOES IT HURT?

It is far more comfortable than conventional laser skin resurfacing. Most patients experience a comfortable sensation during Pixel skin resurfacing.

WHO CAN BE TREATED AND ON WHAT PARTS OF THE BODY?

Pixel skin resurfacing can be used on patients of most skin types anywhere on the body. Since the procedure spares healthy tissue, it can be performed on delicate skin areas, such as the face, neck, chest and hands.

HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO OTHER METHODS?

Pixel skin resurfacing saves patients time and discomfort. In short, Pixel skin resurfacing offers the best of both worlds, superior results, yet no pain and no downtime.

“I’ve had broken blood vessels and age spots on my face for years and thought that I would just have to live with it forever. Then I heard about the KTP 532 Laser at The Carney Center. I can’t believe how clear my face looks now…I just want to tell everyone about this!”*

– Linda M. Richmond, VA

The KTP/532 wavelength laser is a green light device that can be used for the treatment of small but visible facial veins – those red, blue, or purple colored blood vessels that are found near the skin’s surface. The laser’s light energy is absorbed by vascular areas of the skin, with relatively little absorption in the surrounding/underlying tissue; there is virtually no adjacent tissue damage. Anesthesia is not required for the process and patients can walk out of the office immediately without post-treatment bruising or pain.

Millions of women suffer from spider veins, those unsightly clusters of veins that appear on the thighs, calves and ankles. At The Carney Center, we treat spider veins through sclerotherapy, a simple procedure which causes them to disappear from sight permanently (this does not preclude new veins from emerging).

Most candidates are women between 30 and 60 years of age with the exception of those pregnant or nursing. Two or more sessions will be required and most veins will become lighter or disappear after each treatment.

During a session, a sclerosing agent is injected into the affected veins, approximately one injection for every inch of spider vein. You will feel a few small needle sticks but discomfort is usually very minimal.

Support hose may be required to promote healing. Patients are pleasantly surprised at the major difference in appearance after treatment.

Hair loss affects approximately one-third of all men with varying degrees of male pattern baldness. Women also suffer from hair loss but it is more of a diffuse thinning. There are a variety of other causes of hair loss including: trauma, hormones, illness, inadequate diet, unusual immune related skin conditions and thyroid disease. Not surprisingly, a number of remedies have been used for centuries in efforts to restore and maintain hair.

HAIR TRANSPLANTATION

This is a procedure where hair is taken from the back of the scalp and redistributed over the areas of hair loss. The procedure has a near total success rate. Smaller, more numerous grafts are used to achieve a more natural appearance. You are much less likely to notice transplants.

SCALP REDUCTION

Scalp reduction is designed to remove hairless scalp from the back and sides of a balding area. This procedure is done in a variety of patterns depending on the patient’s situation.

FLAP SURGERY

Flap procedures have the advantage of giving a nearly instantaneous hairline. With flaps, there is usually not significant hair loss in the transferred tissue, allowing for immediate and remarkable results.

Flap surgery is something to consider for patients who desire a strong, thick anterior hairline. This surgery is done in stages over a three-week time frame. It requires two procedures under local anesthesia and one procedure under general anesthesia.
