PRP Hair Loss Treatment for Women

Generalized hair loss, which is loss that occurs over the entire scalp, can, in many cases, lead to very pronounced thinning of the entire scalp. Often, these women must wear wigs as generalized hair loss cannot be treated with conventional hair transplants. It is not uncommon however, to recreate the frontal hairline of these patients with the Artas technique. It is not, however, possible to transplant the entire scalp as there is no donor area to harvest.
Fortunately there are treatments available to both strengthen and thicken generalized alopecia in women. At Carney Hair Restoration, we use a very promising treatment called PRP, or Platelet-Rich Plasma to aid in the treatment of generalized post natal alopecia.
How PRP Hair Loss Treatment for Women Works
After we withdraw approximately 20ml of our patient’s blood, we spin it down in a centrifuge and withdraw the plasma layer of the separated blood. The plasma is mixed with a special activator, and subsequently injected just above the dermis layer of the scalp, in very small amounts to the entire scalp.
The science of PRP is somewhat complicated, but basically it works as a kind of super fertilizer to tired and dying hair follicles. It has very good results in the growth and thickening of generalized alopecia. Dr. Carney often combines PRP with other non invasive techniques to regrow thinning hair. We also utilize LLLT, or Low Level Laser Therapy. A very specific laser light frequency is applied in 20 minute intervals to the entire scalp via a Laser Diode Helmet, called Theradome, two to three times a week. This laser light will not cause burns, but is proven to vastly increase the flow of blood within and around thinning hair follicles. These diode laser treatment helmets are available as needed, based on the treatment plan that Dr. Carney prescribes for each individual loss.
